All students applying for the SI leader position must be selected by their professor for a specific course and approved by the respective department chair.
Tutoring Central is the academic support center for UCO students. Tutoring Central oversees one-to-one tutoring sessions and the Supplemental Instruction Leader program.
Provide in-person and/or online academic tutoring to students. Maintain an effective and positive learning environment.
Supplemental Instruction Leaders are chosen by faculty members to become peer leaders for specified classes. Chosen leaders have successfully completed the course in which they will become an SI Leader. They will attend the class as the leader and then plan and facilitate study sessions for the current students in the course or class.
This is a semester-long commitment.
Time Commitment 8-10 hours per week for entire semester employed.
1. Attend all class sessions.
2. Spend at least one hour planning for each SI session held.
3. Conduct 3 one-hour SI sessions during the week.
4. Attend weekly trainings and/or meetings with the coordinator
ENROLLMENT REQUIREMENTS Fall/Spring Semesters All student employees must be enrolled at least half time to be eligible to work any UCO student position. Half time enrollment for Fall/Spring is considered 5 hours for graduates and 6 hours for undergraduates. Summer Semester Undergraduate Work-Study students must be enrolled in 6 hours to work on campus and Graduate Work-Study students must be enrolled in at least 5 hours. All other students must be enrolled in at least 3 hours to work on campus. Students not enrolled in summer classes must be enrolled in Fall classes in order to work on campus, but will be required to pay FICA taxes. If the number of hours needed to graduate is less than the minimum hours required to work, the student must obtain a letter from his/her advisor stating the number of hours needed to graduate. 1. Completed the course for which you are applying. Preference is given to students who have completed the course at UCO with assigned instructor and have a declared major in the subject area.
2. Received at least an A- in the course.
3. Minimum GPA of 3.4.
4. Attended at least two semesters of college; preference is given to juniors, seniors and Grad students.
5. Demonstrates excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Excellent communication skills both written and oral.
Required character traits: Dependability, thoroughness, and initiative.
Have sensitivity of intercultural communication, and have good interpersonal skills.
Repetitive movement of hands and fingers – typing and/or writing. Frequent standing, and/or sitting. Occasional walking, stooping, kneeling or crouching. Reach with hands and arms.
Visually identify, observe and assess. Ability to communicate with supervisor/students/colleagues. Regular physical attendance required.
