College/Department Overview

Tutoring Central is the academice support center for UCO students.  Tutoring Central oversees the One-on-One tutoring services and the Supplemental Instruction Leader Program.

Position Overview

Provide in-person and/or online academic tutoring to students. Maintain an effective and positive learning environment.  This posting is to create a pool of interested student applicants from which a department may draw as positions become open at any point in the current academic year. This position prefers students that can work between 15 and 25 hours.

Department Specific Essential Job Functions

Seeking tutors for English/ Writing at Tutoring Central. Tutor will provide tutoring services to UCO students. Hours will be during Tutoring Central’s hours of operation between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. Monday to Thursday, 9 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Friday and 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Sunday. Tutoring will take place in Tutoring Central. Tutor will provide assistance to students regarding Writing and English assignments. Tutor will maintain schedule for appointments and provide session information and reports as needed to tutoring supervisor. Tutor will be responsible for assigned subject related programs, tasks, and other related duties as part of the TC staff.

Qualifications/Experience Required

ENROLLMENT REQUIREMENTS Fall/Spring Semesters All student employees must be enrolled at least half time to be eligible to work any UCO student position. Half time enrollment for Fall/Spring is considered 5 hours for graduates and 6 hours for undergraduates. Summer Semester Undergraduate Work-Study students must be enrolled in 6 hours to work on campus and Graduate Work-Study students must be enrolled in at least 5 hours. All other students must be enrolled in at least 3 hours to work on campus. Students not enrolled in summer classes must be enrolled in Fall classes in order to work on campus, but will be required to pay FICA taxes. If the number of hours needed to graduate is less than the minimum hours required to work, the student must obtain a letter from his/her advisor stating the number of hours needed to graduate. Qualifications/Experience Preferred

Must have:

-completed English Composition I and II with a grade of A.

-at least a 3.4 cumulative GPA. -demonstrated proficiency in English grammar and the mechanics of writing.

-the ability to deal with diverse types of individuals.

-the ability to work responsibly and ethically with limited direct supervision.

-good communication and English skills.

Must handle confidential information in a professional and ethical manner.

Prior tutoring or teaching experience preferred. English, TESL, or Education majors preferred. Organization and creativity appreciated. Dependability and punctuality a must.


Excellent communication skills both written and oral. Detail oriented. Required character traits: Dependability, thoroughness, and initiative. Have sensitivity of intercultural communication, and have good interpersonal skills.

Physical Demands

Repetitive movement of hands and fingers – typing and/or writing. Frequent standing, and/or sitting. Occasional walking, stooping, kneeling or crouching. Reach with hands and arms.

Visually identify, observe and assess. Ability to communicate with supervisor/students/colleagues. Regular physical attendance required.
