Position Overview

Assist faculty members with classes and courses; assist with research and instrument development/assessment. Cover classes or proctor exams.

Department Specific Essential Job Functions

Develop lesson plans in collaboration with UCO supervisor/mentor to teach in the Cashion Schools


Follow lesson plans effectively


Keep accurate class records and assessments for each class


Be a cheerful, responsible, and competent ambassador for music education from the University of Central Oklahoma

Qualifications/Experience Required

ENROLLMENT REQUIREMENTS Fall/Spring Semesters All student employees must be enrolled at least half time to be eligible to work any UCO student position. Half time enrollment for Fall/Spring is considered 5 hours for graduates and 6 hours for undergraduates. Summer Semester Undergraduate Work-Study students must be enrolled in 6 hours to work on campus and Graduate Work-Study students must be enrolled in at least 5 hours. All other students must be enrolled in at least 3 hours to work on campus. Students not enrolled in summer classes must be enrolled in Fall classes in order to work on campus, but will be required to pay FICA taxes. If the number of hours needed to graduate is less than the minimum hours required to work, the student must obtain a letter from his/her advisor stating the number of hours needed to graduate. Qualifications/Experience Preferred

Certification (Regular, Alternate, or Emergency) to teach in Oklahoma Schools (if you don't have this, we can help you apply for certification through the College of Education and Professional Studies)


Experience teaching or equivalent undergraduate training to teach music in the Cashion Schools


An undergraduate degree in music education (preferred) or music (required)


The successful candidate will be able to:


Effectively and sequentially teach music skills to students of various abilities in a variety of grade levels


Communicate effectively with Cashion colleagues and administrators and UCO mentor/liason


Plan creatively and implement changes as the program grows and develops a strategic plan for future expansion


Stay flexible and maintain student-centered expectations, goals, and objectives

Physical Demands

Repetitive movement of hands and fingers – typing and/or writing. Frequent standing, and/or sitting. Occasional walking, stooping, kneeling or crouching. Reach with hands and arms.

Visually identify, observe and assess. Ability to communicate with supervisor/students/colleagues. Regular physical attendance required.
