Position Overview

Receive and count stock items, and record data manually or using computer. Verify inventory computations by comparing them to physical counts of stock, and investigate discrepancies or adjust errors. Store items in an orderly and accessible manner in warehouses, tool rooms, supply rooms, or other areas. Mark stock items using identification tags, stamps, electric marking tools, or other labeling equipment. Clean and maintain supplies, tools, equipment, and storage areas to ensure compliance with safety regulations. Keep records on the use or damage of stock or stock-handling equipment. Examine and inspect stock items for wear or defects, reporting any damage to appropriate supervisors.

Department Specific Essential Job Functions

Assures an efficient and effective storeroom operation by following and monitoring Facilities procedures to receive, unpack, inventory, account for, issue supplies and equipment. Uses pallet jack, ladders and pallet lift to move and shelve inventory. Use forklift to unload or load large inventory items from truck. Contributes to an accident-free work environment by keeping the store area clean, neat and orderly and free of clutter and debris, properly storing and handling of hazardous material, and adhering to all safety precaution and procedures. Procures materials, supplies and equipment for Facilities Maintenance to meet the needs of the department and complies with University Purchasing guidelines. Prepares, submits and files all paperwork needed for records. Assures accountability of all maintenance equipment and supplies received in the department by following and monitoring compliance guidelines for checking the condition and accuracy of the shipments and records. Ensures that the Facilities Maintenance department has an adequate and appropriate stock of maintenance supplies and equipment by maintaining a perpetual inventory of all such material. Research requested materials through vendor contact, documents or online searches and place order following UCO and Facilities procedures. Utilizes proficient with the work order and inventory management system, maintaining records, developing reports for the reconciliation of inventory and maintaining a real time accounting of all Facilities accounts. Assists with UCO special events, before, during and after. Occasionally, work shifts that are outside the traditional Monday-Friday 8am-5pm. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Experience Required

Performs administrative or manual tasks. Requires general education or vocational training and 6+ years of relevant experience in chosen field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Qualifications/Experience Preferred

Some knowledge of budgeting, cost estimating, and fiscal management principles and procedures. Knowledge of office procedures and practices. Knowledgeable in sound human relations practices in establishing and maintaining effective working relations within the Physical Plant and UCO community, as well as outside vendors, in order to fulfill the expectations of this job description. Knowledgeable of purchase orders and invoice processing operations. Knowledge of basic accounting principles.

Ability to operate 10-key calculator Ability to manage resources Record maintenance skills Ability to understand and review purchases, encumbrances and vendor invoices Must possess excellent communications skills both verbally and in writing. Organizational skills are needed. Computer literate, spreadsheet experience and computerized information systems including Microsoft Word and Excel software. Excellent customer service skills. Sufficient dexterity and coordination to operate equipment common to the trade with demonstrated competency. Able to read and understand manuals and instructions printed in English and other documents legibly in same. Ability work safety and be protected in areas with fumes or airborne particles. Ability to work in and around moving mechanical parts and equipment common to the trade. Willing to attend seminars, etc. to upgrade skills and/orobtain required training to retain certification relative to trade.

Physical Demands

Repetitive movement of hands and fingers. Typing and/or writing. Frequent standing, and/or sitting. Occasional walking, stooping, kneeling or crouching. Reach with hands and arms.

 

Visually identify, observe and assess. Ability to communicate with supervisor/students/colleagues. Regular physical attendance required.

Work requires continuous moderate with some strenuous physical exertion including frequent standing, climbing ladders, crawling, and frequent lifting, pushing and pulling objects over 50 pounds and lifting objects over head of 10 pounds.

 

This position requires a physical. The requirements are as follows: 

  • Occasionally lift 50 lbs. from floor to waist level
  • Frequently push/pull a dolly loaded with 150 lbs. for 300 feet
  • Occasionally maintain kneeling position for five minutes
  • Frequently maintain 30 degrees bend at waist for five minutes
  • Frequently ascend/descend 12 steps of a ladder
