  • College/Department Overview

    Performs general maintenance duties. Performs up-keep of equipment including preventative maintenance duties and repair. Performs tile setting, drywall, painting, locks and hardware repairs. Performs general maintenance and repairs. Utilizes a basic knowledge of electrical, mechanical and plumbing systems to determine and properly communicate scope of repairs needed. Performs routine plumbing maintenance. Moves furniture and other items as needed. Performs general clean up including emptying trash, sweeping, and removal of snow/ice from surfaces. Responsible for the upkeep of the gym floor. Assists with Athletic Department events. Performs other related duties as assigned.     Position Overview

    Perform general maintenance and repair duties including light carpentry, basic electrical, HVAC, grounds maintenance, arranging furniture and partitions, and waste/recycling management. Assist employees with internal moves. Performs setups in order to accommodate the needs of customers while remaining in compliance with all University policies and procedures. Maintain waste/recycling receptacles. May work with outside contractors.

    Department Specific Essential Job Functions

    Under the direction of the Assistant Athletic Director for Operations assists in overseeing proper care and maintenance of on-campus athletic fields, turf, grounds and landscapes.

     

    Directly responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of Athletic Department's facilities, its playing and practice surfaces and provides grounds support for athletic fields.

     

    Responsible for all aspects of maintenance and upkeep of assigned areas, including common areas and hardscapes.

     

    In coordination with the Assistant Athletic Director for operations, assists in scheduling annual refinishing of the basketball and volleyball court(s).

     

    Stays up to date on NCAA rules and regulations for field and court markings.

     

    Ensures safe playing and practice surfaces for UCO's 400+ student-athletes.

     

    Responsible for determining sod replacement, scheduling of fertilization, irrigation, pesticide applications, mowing, and striping of practice and competition surfaces based on weather and athletic schedules.

     

    Responsible for purchasing, use, and inventory of all supplies for day-to-day operation and maintenance.

     

    Assists with the setup and breakdown of varsity practices, competition, special events, outside rentals, camps and clinics, tournaments and championships hosted by the Department of Athletics.

     

    Assist with in-game field management and operations, pre-game setup and post-game procedures.

     

    Provides daily operations management of allocated resources and equipment to ensure that all university playing surfaces and surrounding areas are expertly conditioned to provide optimum levels of safety, performance and appearance.

     

    Communicates needs and works cooperatively with Landscape/Turf Manager in performing the daily maintenance of all intercollegiate athletic fields and the surrounding landscape/horticulture operations to include:  mowing, weed-eating and edging; irrigation testing, maintenance, repair and installation. 

     

    Ensures maintenance and upkeep of all equipment inventory.

     

    Assists with the planning, strategizing, and running university athletic events in coordination with the athletic staff.  Will provide support in the set-up, take-down and execution of athletic competition.

    Qualifications/Experience Required

    Performs administrative or manual tasks. Requires general education or vocational training or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    Qualifications/Experience Preferred

    Experience in care and maintnance of athletic turf and grounds

     

    Three to five years experience in performing maintenane and repair tasks on facilities (which may include carpentry, painting, plumbing, etc.).

     

    Must possess effective computer skills and excellent written and verbal communication skills.

    Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

    Ability to work independently or as a member of a team, depending upon project needs. Good base knowledge of all phases of maintenance and repair and the tools and techniques utilized for various projects. Knowledge of general carpentry, paint and plumbing repair work. Ability to work with minimal supervision. Ability to work a flexible schedule which may include days, evenings, and weekends. Ability to work other shifts as needed and for emergencies. Ability to work in inclement weather. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required to be used as the situation dictates. Ability to work in a potentially hazardous areas such as enclosed spaces, roof tops, and heights above 6 feet. Ability to work in an environment with loud noises. Ability to successfully complete all necessary training sessions including scissor lift training. Reads, understands manuals and instructions printed in English and documents legibly in same. Good oral and written communication skills are needed to carry out the duties and responsibilities of this position.

    Physical Demands

    Repetitive movement of hands and fingers. Typing and/or writing. Frequent standing, and/or sitting. Occasional walking, stooping, kneeling or crouching. Reach with hands and arms.

     

    Visually identify, observe and assess. Ability to communicate with supervisor/students/colleagues. Regular physical attendance required.
