    Do not apply if you have not been awarded Federal Work Study monies. If you do not have access to personal transportation this could hinder your ability to perform this job. A background check will be required and must be approved before work will begin.

     

    The student tutors will be able to arrange their schedules to work with the teachers at the facilities they are sent to. There are not set hours but will be during the daytime as that is when schools are open. No weekend hours are available.

    College/Department Overview

    America Reads Tutor positions are Federal Work Study positions. In order to work for this program, you must be approved for work study through Student Financial Services.

     

    This position work-site is not on the UCO Campus. Students will be required to provide their own transportation to work site.

    Position Overview

    Provide in-person reading tutoring to primary age students in the Oklahoma City/Edmond area. Must maintain an effective and positive learning environment.

    Provide reading tutoring to primary age students.

    Qualifications/Experience Required

    ENROLLMENT REQUIREMENTS Fall/Spring Semesters All student employees must be enrolled at least half time to be eligible to work any UCO student position. Half time enrollment for Fall/Spring is considered 5 hours for graduates and 6 hours for undergraduates. Summer Semester Undergraduate Work-Study students must be enrolled in 6 hours to work on campus and Graduate Work-Study students must be enrolled in at least 5 hours. All other students must be enrolled in at least 3 hours to work on campus. Students not enrolled in summer classes must be enrolled in Fall classes in order to work on campus, but will be required to pay FICA taxes. If the number of hours needed to graduate is less than the minimum hours required to work, the student must obtain a letter from his/her advisor stating the number of hours needed to graduate.     Qualifications/Experience Preferred

    Applicant needs to interact well with primary age children. Must enjoy tutoring primary age children. Previous experience in child related activity would be prefererd but not required.

    Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

    Applicants must be able to read English fluently.

     

    Physical Demands

    Repetitive movement of hands and fingers - typing and/or writing. Frequent standing, and/or sitting. Occasional walking, stooping, kneeling or crouching. Reach with hands and arms. Visually identify, observe and assess. Ability to communicate with supervisor/students/colleagues. Regular physical attendance required.
