Advises prospective students and their parents about the University's programs and educational opportunities. Recruits students by attending college fair programs, visiting high schools, participating in campus recruitment activities, and/or other recruitment activities. Collaborates with other functions (e.g., marketing and School administration) in an effort to ensure up-to-date information is provided to potential students. Coordinates student recruitment activities and programs and may coordinate and/or provide campus tours. May develop recruiting, advising, and adjustment programs specific to international students. May develop orientation materials, handouts, and/or updates for students or prospective students.
Develops and coordinates presentations, special campus visits, workshops, and on-campus recruitment events for prospective students. Travels to recruitment events and private visits. Meets recruitment objectives as determined by the Director. Effectively gives campus tours. Targets and coordinates recruitment efforts directed for all prospective students including first time freshmen, transfers, adult students, GED recipients, and other special populations. Counsels students regarding the admissions process, reviews admission applications, conducts initial transcript evaluations, and provides initial academic advisement to incoming students. Determines admissibility and acceptance of freshmen, concurrent, and transfer credit for prospective and returning students in accordance with professional association guidelines, state mandates and institutional policies. Conducts research directed at process improvement. Maintains familiarity with all UCO, high school and community college educational programs. Communicates with internal and external constituents to ensure successful student transition. Discusses options with inadmissible students for future enrollment at UCO. Responds to student correspondence in timely fashion. Assists with on-campus recruitment activities as needed. Processes applications for admission and determines admission decision for applicants on a daily basis. Organizes and oversees one of the primary admissions committees (i.e. appeals, residency, and large events). Collaborates with the Directors on strategy and team direction for all prospective student populations, training programs for staff, students and volunteers, development and implementation of successful student recruitment strategies, all on-and off-campus special events for prospective students, and in the development of print and web-based marketing materials, social media strategies. Acts as mentor, trainer, and resource person for Admission Counselors and student staff. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requires a bachelor's degree in field plus 3+ years of relevant experience in the chosen field or 7+ years of equivalent work experience that provides knowledge of and exposure to fundamental theories, principles, and concepts. Requires the application of expertise in a chosen field to achieve results.
Minimum two years' experience in academic advising/counseling and familiarity with university admission and enrollment processes. Willingness to travel throughout the state and/or region. Master's degree.
Ability to relate to a diverse applicant/student population as well as to various members of the higher education community. Ability to work well under pressure and give attention to details. Must demonstrate strong decision-making and organizational skills delivered from a client-centered perspective. Excellent oral/written communication and personal computing skills. Ability to travel throughout the state and/or region.
