    Position Overview

    The costume shop student assistants are an important part of providing production support for the College of Fine Arts and Design. Assistants help build costumes for productions, maintain costume organization and oversee lab students in the costume areas.

    Department Specific Essential Job Functions

    Build costumes as assigned by the Costume Designer or Costume Shop Manager. Assist with maintaining the organization of the costume spaces, including the Costume Shop, Costume Storage, and Mitchell Hall Theatre. Assist with the oversight of lab students. Perform other duties as assigned by the Costume Designer or Costume Shop Manager.

    Qualifications/Experience Required

    ENROLLMENT REQUIREMENTS: Fall/Spring Semesters All student employees must be enrolled at least half time to be eligible to work any UCO student position. Half time enrollment for Fall/Spring is considered 5 hours for graduates and 6 hours for undergraduates. Summer Semester Undergraduate Work-Study students must be enrolled in 6 hours to work on campus and Graduate Work-Study students must be enrolled in at least 5 hours. All other students must be enrolled in at least 3 hours to work on campus. Students not enrolled in summer classes must be enrolled in Fall classes in order to work on campus, but will be required to pay FICA taxes. If the number of hours needed to graduate is less than the minimum hours required to work, the student must obtain a letter from his/her advisor stating the number of hours needed to graduate.     Qualifications/Experience Preferred

    • Demonstrated experience in a variety of hand sewing techniques

    • Demonstrated experience in a variety of machine sewing techniques

    • Able to communicate ideas effectively

    • Able to lift 25-50 pounds

    • Able to pull/push costume racks weighing up to 500 pounds

    Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

    The ideal candidate should be self-motivated, able to follow directions and complete projects with minimal instruction or supervision. They must have the ability to manage their time effectively and must have good interpersonal and communication skills. They must be a dependable member of the team.

    Physical Demands

    Repetitive movement of hands and fingers - typing and/or writing. Frequent standing, and/or sitting. Occasional walking, stooping, kneeling or crouching. Reach with hands and arms. Visually identify, observe and assess. Ability to communicate with supervisor/students/colleagues. Regular physical attendance required.
