    Position Overview

    Install, maintain, test, and troubleshoot electrical systems for the organization's facilities. Install electrical systems according to blueprints in facilities under construction. Ensure proper wiring in construction or repairs and ensure electrical systems are in compliance with local or national regulatory requirements. Perform tests and locate potential electrical hazards for repair. May inspect and repair electrical systems in equipment or machinery.

    Department Specific Essential Job Functions

    Maintains and repairs motors, relays, magnetic starters, transformers, etc. Installs and makes interconnections of transformers. Repairs, maintains, or erects wiring apparatus. Locates and corrects power failures and short circuits. Do OKIE locates on campus. Responds to elevator shutdowns, fire/safety alarms and time system to assist in troubleshooting problems. Available to help a facilities emergency. This may necessitate the use of a radio/cellular telephone for after hours call backs. Further, a pre-arranged shift change may be implemented for predictable emergencies like inclement weather. Performs duties and complies with needs of special events, before, during, and after the special events are completed. Observes, communicates, complies with and enforces Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) provisions; analyzes supplies and materials used in the performance, training and duties of subordinates of the trade. Performs other related duties as necessary to support the UCO mission.

    Qualifications/Experience Required

    Performs administrative or manual tasks. Requires general education or vocational training and 3+ years relevant experience in chosen field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    Qualifications/Experience Preferred

    Minimum three years experience working as a unlimited electrical Journeyman Electrician. Must understand the electrical symbols and interpretations of building and electrical prints. Must have a valid Oklahoma Driver License. Responsible for obtaining/maintaining all licenses required for code compliance and special tool operations. Must be familiar with BOCA, NEC, Fire Codes, and ADA requirements.

    Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

    Sufficient dexterity and coordination to operate equipment common to the trade, especially trucks and industrial tractors. Reads, understands manuals and instructions printed in English and documents legibly in same. Good oral and written communications are needed to carry out the duties and responsibilities of this position. Knowledgeable in sound human relations practices in establishing and maintaining effective working relations within the Physical Plant and UCO Community, as well as outside vendors, in order to fulfill the expectations of this job description. Must be able to read and follow blue prints, schematics, drawings, and O & M Manuals common to the trade. Must be knowledgeable of ASME, fire ratings and codes, BOCA, NEC, ADA, etc. requirements and responsible for keeping licenses current. Knowledge of use and disposal of chemicals common to the trade in a manner which protects oneself, others in the work area, and the environment. Willing to attend seminars, etc. to upgrade skills and/or obtain required training to retain certification relative to trade. Ability to work safely and be protected in areas with fumes or airborne particles and toxic and/or caustic chemicals common to the trade.

    Physical Demands

    Repetitive movement of hands and fingers. Typing and/or writing. Frequent standing, and/or sitting. Occasional walking, stooping, kneeling or crouching. Reach with hands and arms. Visually identify, observe and assess. Ability to communicate with supervisor/students/colleagues. Regular physical attendance required.     This position requires a physical.  The physical requirements are:

    • Ability to lift 50 lbs. regularly and 75 lbs. occasionally.
    • Ability to lift 50 lbs. and carry 200 feet.
    • Ability to lift 50 lbs. and carry up/down 30 stairs.
    • Ability to walk regularly for long periods of time across the campus.
    • Ability to sit for long periods of time.
    • Ability to use and reach with hands and arms regularly.
    • Ability to climb in high places using a ladder or balance frequently.
    • Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, bend and crawl occasionally.
    • Ability to push or pull dolly loaded with up to 120 pounds for 300 feet occasionally.
    • Must have close, distance, and peripheral vision.
    • Depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
